How to correctly cut your galvanized steel pipe in applications

As almost all the insiders know, the cutting of China hollow section tube is an important process in the whole pipe production in a mill, especially in order to cater to an appropriate custom fit for your specific applications. There are different methods and ways of cutting pipe, and each depends on what types of pipe you are cutting. In a sense, it seems necessary for Tianjin steel pipe manufacturers to follow the proper steps so as to ensure the final successful finished products for your future projects. As a rule, how to cut galvanized steel pipe generally depending on the metal pipe’s outer diameter as well as its wall thickness. There is a brief rundown on a couple of the most common tube-cutting methods as follows.

1. Laser Cutting
Despite the high capital cost, a laser cutting system provides a range of capabilities and associated advantages. Easily controlled with automation equipment (CNC), a laser allows an operator to cut, deburr, inspect, and even pack material while the laser runs continuously. Lasers, which concentrate a tremendous amount of heat energy into an extremely small area, produce narrow kerf widths, tight tolerances, and minimal HAZs. They cut with little distortion to the workpiece such as cold rolled steel pipe, nickel alloys, and titanium. However, the inside of the tubing must be coated with antispatter fluid.

2. Abrasive Cutting
Abrasive sawing is a basic, manual method of cutting-to-length product to the customer's specification in any alloy. An abrasive saw operates with a circular abrasive blade or resin-composition wheel (either wet or dry) that grinds through the product. While an abrasive saw is easy to use and requires little or no setup time, it cannot provide a square cut or tight tolerances. Because the process uses a cutting or burning action, it is not efficient for thick-walled material. It also might leave a heat-affected zone (HAZ) that can affect secondary processing. In addition, it will produce significant kerf and a heavy burr that might have to be removed by deburring. In that regard, it is not suggested to adopt this method to cut galvanized steel pipe in your project if you have much more specific requirements for your applications.

3. Band Saw Cutting
Band saw cutting is a fully automatic process and the most common method for cutting rod, bar, pipe, and tubing. This process is excellent for large-volume cutting. Some band saws can handle large product bundles. Band saw cutting is a viable method for cutting a variety of shapes, such as square steel pipe, rectangle pipe, channels, I beams, and extrusions. Despite the many advantages of band saw cutting, it is not an efficient process for cutting thin-walled products. Moreover, band saw cutting produces a burr and does not achieve tight tolerances.

Welded steel pipe corrosion control in applications

Types of corrosion:
There are two general classifications of corrosion that cover most of the specific forms: direct chemical attack and electrochemical attack. In both types of corrosion, the metal is converted into a metallic compound such as an oxide, hydroxide, or sulfate. The corrosion process always involves two simultaneous changes: the metal that is attacked or oxidized suffers what may be called anodic change, and the corrosive agent is reduced and may be considered as undergoing cathodic change.
In the modern times, much has been done to improve the corrosion resistance of welded steel pipes used in a variety of applications such as improvement in materials, surface treatment, insulation, and in particular, modern protective finishes. All of these have been aimed at reducing the overall maintenance effort, as well as improving reliability. In spite of these improvements, corrosion and its control is a very real problem that requires continuous preventive maintenance.

In the recent years, surface finishing is a broad range of industrial processes that alter the surface of a manufactured item to achieve a certain property. Black steel pipe is named for the black oxide substance formed on its surface, which is one popular member of steel pipe kingdom in the steel pipe market today. However, the black oxide substance has no capacity of anti corrosion and anti rust. In other words, it is necessary to take some measures to protect the black steel pipe from rusting in daily applications. Technically, paint is the most commonly used material to protect steel. Paint systems for steel structures have developed over the years to comply with industrial environmental legislation and in response to demands from bridge and building owners for improved durability performance. For cold rolled steel pipes, the protective paint systems usually consist of primer, undercoat(s) and finish coats. Each coating ‘layer’ in any protective system has a specific function, and the different types are applied in a particular sequence of primer followed by intermediate / build coats in the shop, and finally the finish or top coat either in the shop or on site. Passivation is another important method to protect black steel pipe from corrosion in applications, which is widely applied to some structural steel pipes used outdoors.

Hot dipped galvanized steel pipe generally has the rational cost effective in the market today. Compared with other typical steel pipe coatings, such as specialized painting and powder coating, galvanization is much more labor-intensive, resulting in a higher initial cost for contractors. Besides, due to its durability and anti-corrosive properties, galvanized steel pipe can recycled and reused, which to some degree save a lot of money during the post maintenance work. Furthermore, for one thing, the galvanization process protects the steel from rusting damage that can occur during transportation, installation and service. The zinc layer on the surface of pipe can form a barrier protection for steel products to extend the service life in applications. For the other thing, this layer is also resistant to wear and scratch, which makes the steel look more attractive.

How to look at galvanized steel pipe used for frame scaffolding

Generally speaking, frame scaffolding is one of the most common types of scaffolding, often seen on construction sites worldwide. Typically the frame scaffolding is manufactured from round steel tube, available in several different configurations, from a section that contains both a ladder and a walk-through portal to sections that are totally walk-through and sections that resemble a ladder. The typical method of constructing frame scaffolding is to use two sections of the scaffold frame connected by two crossed sections of support poles arranged in a square configuration.

Galvanized steel pipe generally has the rational cost effective in the market. If you choose a galvanized pipe, you can avoid the cost of maintaining and replacing corroded pipes. With galvanized pipe, your pipes can last a lot longer than a non galvanized one, which will save you a lot of money in the project.

Unlike other structural steel materials, galvanized steel is immediately ready for use when it is delivered. No additional preparation of the surface is required, no time-consuming inspections, additional painting or coatings are needed. Once the structure is assembled, contractors can immediately begin the next stage of construction without having to worry about the galvanized steel materials. In the majority of cases, China hollow section tube are widely used for frame scaffolding is in good condition and erected properly, it will provide a stable elevated work platform at virtually any height so that workers can easily and safely work anytime.

Today, there are many different types of scaffolding in construction. Hot dipped galvanized pipe has been considered popular a lot among many users today. With the layer of protection, this kind of steel pipes can be used in outdoor areas, and can withstand the harm from some of the environmental effects, which are especially used in construction today.

Spiral steel pipe manufacturing process

Generally speaking, spiral steel pipes in one type of welded steel pipe in the pipe market, which are made by steel coil, extrusion forming under the normal temperature, and then undertake the manufacturing technology of double wire and double-faced submerged-arc welded in a mill. In the past, due to the method of manufacture, Spiral Welded pipe was relegated to low pressure and structural applications. With the development of the Submerged Arc Welding process, the production of large hot rolled coils of sufficient width and the development of dependable non-destructive testing methods, it is now possible to produce Spiral Weld pipe for high-pressure service.

Spiral steel pipe process
(1) Raw materials that refers to the steel strip coil, wire spiral steel pipe, flux. Have to pass strict physical and chemical inspection before investment.
(2) Strip head to tail docking, use single or double wire submerged arc welding, after rolled to steel tube, adopts automatic submerged arc welding for repair welding.
(3) Before forming, strip steel should go through the process of flattening, cutting edge, edge planing, transmission and surface cleaning, flanging process.
(4) The electric contact pressure gauge to control the cylinder under pressure of two side of conveyor to ensure the smooth delivery of strip steel.
(5) The use of external control or internal control roll forming.
(6) the control unit to ensure weld spiral pipe weld space meets the demand of welding; the pipe diameter, quantity of the wrong side and weld gap are tightly controlled.
(7) External or internal welding are used the United States Lincoln welding machine for single or double wire submerged arc welding, to obtain the stable welding specification.
(8) After welding, the weld passes the online continuous ultrasonic automatic meter check, to ensure the spiral weld nondestructive testing coverage of 100%. If there are defects, automatic alarm and spray tag, production workers to adjust process parameters, in a timely manner to eliminate defects.
(9) Using air plasma cutting machine to cut the steel tube into single.
(10) For most cold rolled steel pipes, every batch of steel pipe in the first three must carry on the strict inspection after cut into single, to check the weld mechanical properties, chemical composition and amalgamation. Steel tube surface quality and the nondestructive flaw detection to ensure that qualified pipe process and then can be formally put into production.
(11) There is a continuous acoustic detection on weld, after manual ultrasonic and X-ray check, if there are defects, after repair, again through the nondestructive inspection, until defects have been eliminated.
(12) Strip steel butt weld and fellowship with spiral weld “丁”joint in the tube, all pass X-ray films and television inspection.
(13) Each steel pipe after hydrostatic pressure test, radial sealing for the pressure. Test pressure and time are controlled strictly by steel pipe hydraulic microcomputer testing device.
(14) Pipe end machining to make the end vertical, and slope angle and the blunt edge to get accurate control.
During molding process of spiral welded steel pipe, steel plate has uniform deformation and light residual stress, thus the surface has no scratches. In the real life, we can often see many round steel pipe widely used for certain purposes around us. Spiral steel pipe has more flexible thicknesses and diameters, especially in making high-grade thick pipes with small or medium aperture, these techniques has incomparable advantages in satisfying your needs.

Why to choose galvanized steel tube as building material in construction?

Due to the great strength, uniformity, light weight, ease of use, and many other desirable properties, galvanized steel pipe has been widely used in a variety of practical purposes. At present, more and more building owners, designers, architects, and general contractors have opted for galvanized in commercial construction projects over other materials mainly for its energy efficiency, low maintenance, and durability. Besides, some other key attributes, such as striking beauty, clean look, and versatility in both new and retrofit construction are becoming helpful to firmly establish steel as the material of choice for institutional, commercial and education building projects.

Compared to timber framing, the initial construction cost is typically more expensive. For builders, you’ll find it cheaper to choose galvanized steel pipe for building materials in construction because it is recyclable, which means that waste removal companies often don’t charge to pick up your scrap steel. For the homeowner, the money savings come with things like maintenance and insurance. Steel frames won’t rot, splinter or become damaged by pests, and insurance companies typically charge substantially less on homeowner’s insurance for steel frames over timber frames. Hot dipped galvanized steel pipe has been considered popular a lot among many users today. For one thing, the galvanization process protects the steel from rusting damage that can occur during transportation, installation and service. The zinc layer on the surface of pipe can form a barrier protection for steel products to extend the service life in applications. For the other thing, this layer is also resistant to wear and scratch, which makes the steel look more attractive. With the layer of protection, hot dipped galvanized steel pipes can be used in outdoor areas, and can withstand the harm from some of the environmental effects.

In addition, galvanized steel pipes are also widely used as structural steel pipes for frame building materials today, as they are far easier to work with than most other building materials. First, it comes pre-engineered, which means that your employees will spend less time measuring, cutting and shaping. Steel is also lighter than wood, making it easier to put in place with less manpower. These two factors alone will allow you to progress more quickly with your project than you would if you were working with timber. Furthermore, China hollow section tube has many benefits used as building materials in construction such as its strength, environmental friendliness, lower insurance premiums, design flexibility and recyclability. Other advantages include energy-efficiency, durability, and resistance to water, fire and insect damage.
